Experience the grand architecture and living history of Newport’s Colony House. Built in 1739, this building quickly became the cultural and political center of colonial Rhode Island.
It has been the scene of many dramatic events, including landmark trials, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, the state’s Election Day festivities, and a reception hosted by the French General Rochambeau for the visiting George Washington.
Now, because of a very special arrangement with the State of Rhode Island, you can host your event at the Colony House through the Newport Historical Society.
While all event venues claim to be special, Newport’s Colony House truly is. Because of its historical importance and the extraordinary collections housed within, particular care must be taken in choosing to host an event here. Careful, appropriate use of this unique site ensures the continued preservation of the the building and its contents.
